Sunset (Bald Eagle)
Sunset, a local resident of Sitka, was found beneath a power line near her nest with her wing severed at the wrist. Sunset lost the outer part of the wing used for propulsion and steering and is non-releasable. Her rescuer asked that the fledgling eagle be named Sunset for the time of day she was found. Thought to be only 4 months old when she came to the Alaska Raptor Rehabilitation Center, she habituated quickly to living with humans. She spent time with an adult education bald eagle to learn social behavior that she should have learned from her parents in the wild.
