Narwhal (Great-horned Owl)
Narwhal was admitted to Mt. McKinley Animal Hospital in Fairbanks, AK after being struck by a car along the highway to Delta Junction, AK. The collision displaced and fractured her left humerus and scraped one of the feather tufts (horns) off the top of her head. The employees at Mt. McKinley put on a wing wrap to stabilize the bone and transferred her to the Alaska Raptor Center. After several months it was clear that, though she was able to fly, her wingbeats remained far too loud for her to silently swoop down on live prey.
