Explore the Rainforest

The Alaska Raptor Center is located on 17 acres in the Tongass National Forest. When visiting the Alaska Raptor Center, guests have the opportunity to walk our ¼ mile nature trail loop, which leads you along unique Alaskan ecosystems including lush temperate rainforest, the bountiful Indian River, which boasts prime salmon spawning habitat, and spongy muskeg wetland. This well-marked walking trail allows guests to experience the wonders of Southeast Alaska safely and at their own pace. Please understand that the trail may closed in late summer due to high bear activity.

The Alaska Raptor Center is located within the United States’ largest forest, the Tongass National Forest. Containing 17 million acres, this forest was designated by Teddy Roosevelt in 1917 and contains some of the most lush vegetation found anywhere on earth. The Tongass National Forest is part of the largest temperate rainforest region in the world, stretching from central California to southeast Alaska.
