Raptor Weathering Yard
Here at the Alaska Raptor Center, every effort is made to keep our Raptors-in-Residence safe, healthy and comfortable. As part of their ongoing care, they must be exposed to natural weather elements each day. In our Raptor Weathering Yard, you will find some of the species of raptors that are native to Alaska. The Weathering Yard gives our residents a safe spot to perch during the day, while also exposing them to sunlight, rain and other elements, which are essential for their physical and mental health. At night, these birds are returned to their own individual enclosure or mew.
These mews are specially sized for the inhabitant, with windows, a variety of perching options, and a bath pan for them to enjoy, untethered. Each day, a different arrangement of raptor species can be viewed from the Weathering Yard, with some of our resident birds having the day off.
