Onyx was rescued in Sitka, Alaska in 2013 after being found unable to fly. X-rays taken upon admission revealed that he had been shot, resulting in a fractured right humerus. Although surgery successfully repaired the fracture, Onyx permanently lost range of motion in that wing and is unable to sustain flight.

Common Ravens are known to be among the most intelligent bird species in the world, and Onyx is no exception. He regularly receives some of our most challenging enrichments and never fails to figure out how to extract the hidden treats from boxes or jugs.
