One of our Red-tailed Hawks, Edie was found in Hutchins, TX in 2019. During examination, X-rays revealed a fractured right leg from causes unknown. Edie showed signs of habituation in human care and, though her leg healed, was ultimately deemed non-releasable. She is now part of our educational team, showcasing the Eastern subspecies size and color.

Red-tailed Hawks come in a surprising range of color variations, making each one a little different from the next. Some, like Edie, have a dark back with pale undersides, while others are much darker, more of a chocolate brown or nearly black.
