Boris was found injured north of Anchorage after a vehicle collision. He suffered trauma to his right wrist which left him unable to fully extend his wing. Because of this injury he can no longer fly and would be unable to survive on his own in the wild. He became part of our ambassador team in 2007 and currently lives in one of our display enclosures.
In the wild, Great Gray Owls are known for their calm nature around people, and you’ll notice that right away when you meet Boris. He’s comfortable with his caretakers in his enclosure, but he prefers a little personal space and likes to keep us at arm’s length. Always quietly observant, Boris takes in everything happening around him.
