Land Acknowledgement

The Alaska Raptor Center acknowledges that we live and work on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded lands of the Tlingit people, specifically the Sheet’ká Kwaan. We honor their enduring connection to this land, the forests, and the waters, and recognize the histories of displacement and colonization that have affected Indigenous communities here.

We acknowledge that the Tlingit people are not only a part of history, they are present, thriving, and contributing to the life of this region today. Their cultural knowledge, stewardship, and deep understanding of local ecosystems inspire and inform our work with raptors and the natural world.

As an organization dedicated to the care and rehabilitation of avian species, we are committed to taking meaningful action in support of Indigenous communities. This includes learning from Tlingit knowledge, supporting Indigenous-led conservation and cultural initiatives, and encouraging our staff, visitors, and partners to respect and uplift Indigenous voices. We see this acknowledgment as a starting point for ongoing learning, collaboration, and action.
